At Arm's Length
My MA dissertation analyzed self-portraiture on MySpace.com. The research process required that I search through tens of thousands of users' photographs to specifically find self-portraits. As a result, I became interested in the moment in which a person photographs themselves. Typically we only see the result of these moments in a person's photographs. These become their projections of self, images used to create individuality. I decided to explore what these moments look like from an outsider's perspective.
